French Research Reactors - 2005 Review

The Reactor Operators' Club (CER) is the meeting and discussion forum for managers of research reactors from the Nuclear Energy Direction (DEN), part of the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) and of other French experimental reactors. This publication's objective is to introduce everyone in this extensive group of research reactors in operation, and to provide an overview of the highly varied activities achieved in 2005. This booklet shows the range of research applications and fields undertaken in these reactors: Materials and fuels for future reactors; Theoretical studies of the structure of matter; National Defence; Teaching; Medical and industry; Ariane Espace; Nanotechnologies, neutronics, safety,... These highly varied research activities correspond to an operations budget of approximately 500 MEuros. They directly employ highly skilled staff of approximately 1,700 persons primarily on 5 different sites in France.
