Quantum theory of local stopping power for fast channeled ions

Description

Local electronic stopping power for fast channeled ions is calculated on the basis of our previous definition of the stopping power. We find that the definition coincides with that deduced from the conventional impact-parameter method. For the specific calculations, we use Roothaan-Hartree-Fock wave functions to describe the electronic states and introduce mean excitation energies for each orbital. The results are in better agreement with experimental data than those of Lindhard's local-density approximation, which suggests the importance of the shell corrections to the local stopping power
