Fuel cycle
Description
The author analyses the papers presented at the Paris Conference on the maturity of nuclear energy. The main questions relating to the reprocessing of fuels are recalled and the considerable progress made in this field is presented. The problems posed by the enrichment of uranium are not the technical development of the processes but concern the development of industrial capacities for the separation of isotopes. It should be looked to the industrial field to make this effort as the future of nuclear power depends on it
Abstract (French)
Evoquant les principales questions relatives au retraitement des combustibles irradies, l'auteur souligne les progres importants qui ont ete accomplis dans ce domaine. Traitant ensuite de l'enrichissement de l'uranium, il est amene a indiquer qu'a ce niveau les problemes qui se posent ne tiennent pas tant a la mise au point technique des procedes d'enrichissement qu'au developpement des capacites industrielles de separation isotopique. Cette remarque vaut d'ailleurs pour toutes les etapes du cycle du combustible. Si la technique des differentes operations caracterisant le cycle est maintenant arrivee a maturite, souligne-t-il, c'est sur le plan industriel que l'effort doit maintenant porter car c'est de lui que depend en partie le developpement de l'energie nucleaire.Additional details
