Description
A non-flow calorimeter to investigate the thermal behavior of saturated heavy water and other fluids at temperatures and pressures up to 400 deg C and 250 atmospheres was designed and developed. An up-to-date status of the calorimetric investigations currently underway in the Applied Thermodynamic Laboratory of the University of Western Ontario is given. Measurements of the saturation parameters have been conducted on saturated light water from 100 to 350 deg C. The experimental data obtained are in good agreement with the only other experimental data obtained by Osborne et al at the U.S. Bureau of Standards. Measurements of the saturation parameters for saturated heavy water have been obtained from 50 deg C to the critical point. These measurements are the first of their kind for heavy water in the world. The experimental results of this research appear to indicate that the enthalpy and latent heat values for saturated heavy water given in various tables are in serious error at elevated temperatures
