Morpholine form condensate polishing at Oldbury-on-Severn nuclear power station

  • 1. CEGB Bedminster Down, Bristol (UK)

Description

Condensate polishing plant at Oldbury-on-Severn PS has been successfully operated for several years with the cation resin of the mixed bed in the morpholine form. This mode of operation allows the use of relatively high concentrations of the amine for corrosion control in the steam-water circuit whilst maintaining full condensate polishing plant protection. Condensate pH levels of over 9.7 are being used with acceptable leakages of sodium, chloride and sulphate. In this mode the plant exhibits a very low capacity for organic acids and as a result higher levels of these impurities are observed compared with steam-water circuits polished by plant in the conventional H-OH mode.
