Computed tomography in cardiac resynchronization

Description

Cardiac resynchronization therapy is an adjunct current therapy in patients with systolic heart failure and prolonged interventricular conduction. Evidence of target vessel for left ventricle stimulation is a prerequisite for successful procedural outcome. Imaging modalities can help the assessment of cardiac vessels and guide the lead position. The aim of this paper is to present the authors' initial experience in the use of cardiac computed tomography as additional procedural guidance in cardiac resynchronization. Several patients undergoing cardiac resynchronization are described and imaging feature helping the procedure are presented. Authors' initial experience confirm the utility of the cardiac computed tomography for assessment the cardiac veins, the lead positioning and the scar visualization as the complex treatment of heart failure by cardiac resynchronization therapy.
