On formation of protective barrier layer during high temperature oxidation of Cr-0,5La alloy

Description
The alloy had a high corrosion resistance at elevated temperatures in air. At 9000, a thin nonuniform CrO layer formed. At 10000, a dense dark green film of LaCrO3 formed. The scale obtained at 11000 consisted of 10% CrO and balance LaCrO3 having a grain size of 2-3. At 12000 La2O3.CrO formed. At higher temperatures, the formation of solid solutions of La2O3.CrO in LaCrO3 was observed. The lattice parameters of LaCrO3 were determined the LaCrO3 coating caused the formation of a barrier layer which inhibited further alloy oxidation
