About 250 cases of skeletal scintiscanning using sup(99m)Tc-labelled stannous pyrophosphate. Analytical and critical study
Description
The physical and biological characteristics of 85Sr, 87Sr, 18F and sup(99m)Tc, four radionuclides suitable for skeletal imaging are reviewed. Their mechanism of localization, advantages and disadvantages are described. The physical characteristics and relative tissue concentration of sup(99m)Tc compare favorably to those of the other bone-seeking radionuclides. 250 cases of various skeletal diseases are presented, using sup(99m)Tc-pyrophosphate as a skeletal imaging agent. This radiopharmaceutical proves to be useful particularly in the detection of bone metastases. Bone scans, however, are not 100% positive with metastatic diseases and false negative do occasionally occur. The scan is also helpful in demonstrating the extent of metastatic bone disease

On enumere les caracteristiques physiques et biologiques du 85Sr, 87Sr, 18F et sup(99m)Tc, quatre radionucleides appropries a la scintigraphie du squelette. On decrit leur mecanisme d'action, leurs avantages et leurs inconvenients. Les caracteristiques physiques et la concentration tissulaire du sup(99m)Tc en font un agent superieur aux autres radionucleides osteotropes. On presente 250 observations de diverses maladies osseuses, apres scintigraphie au sup(99m)Tc-pyrophosphate. Ce radiopharmaceutique s'est revele tres utile, en particulier, pour le depistage des metastases osseuses.
