Lung ventilation scintigraphy with a polydisperse aerosol: first experiences with a commercially-available jet vaporiser system (MEDI-CIS)
- 1. Gemeenteziekenhuis, Dordrecht (Netherlands)
Description
Recently, a complete radio-labelled aerosol production system became commercially available. The system is described and the first practical experiences as well as a clinical pilot study are reported. Lung inhalation scintigrams were made since 1965 with radioactive aerosols or noble gases, but aerosols have many more advantages. Technetium-99m is the most used isotope. The aerosol consists of so-called albumin milli-microspheres. In this case cysteine was used. The patient procedure is presented and eight cases are described. The method is thought to be valuable for routine investigations in the near future. (Auth.)
