Description

The formation of an intermolecular bond in complexes of the electron donor-acceptor (DA) type is accompanied by a redistribution of electron density in both components of the complex. Valuable information on the character of the changes undergone by the donor and acceptor molecules in complexation can be obtained from NQR spectrometry. The present work is aimed at correlating NQR frequencies and multiplicity of spectra with the redistribution of electron density among orbitals of the central atom and the transfer of electron density to the halogen atoms upon complexation. The authors have investigated the 35,37Cl, 69,71Ga, and 79,81Br NQR spectra of complexes of gallium trichloride and aluminum bromide with nitriles and amines
