Advanced process management aids for nuclear plant operation
Description
This chapter discusses the use of computers by boiling water reactor (BWR) process managers, who are primarily responsible for developing and executing a coherent strategy for dealing with plant emergencies. Topics considered include the relationship of the process manager's tasks to machine applications, safety parameter display system (SPDS) enhancement (parameter validation, critical systems demand/response, emergency procedures monitoring, system status monitoring, technical specification monitoring, failure diagnosis), and the computer algorithms for procedures monitoring work. The described process management aid is a computer-based system which is specifically designed to support information retrieval and decision-analysis tasks. A model is presented for binding together and extending improved emergency response systems (e.g., SPDS, event-independent emergency procedures, emergency response facilities) with advanced computer applications
