Several proposals for switching elements using a saturable reactor in the heavy current discharge system

  • 1. Nagoya University, Institute of Plasma Physics, Nagoya, Aichi (Japan)

Description

Several new applications of saturable reactors (SR) for the switching element of heavy current systems are described. It is demonstrated that a SR can be used as a decoupling element among the different power source which are mutually connected to one load coil. In case the decoupled power source is discharged into a load coil successively, stepped current waveform is obtained. Using this techniques, successive non-adiabatic compression of plasmas will be realized. Using the current rectification property of SR, a crowbar switch without heavy current contact point can be designed by the aid of usual gap type crowbar switch. The final proposal is to use SR for transfer switch of inductive storage system. An example of the 2000 MW out put system is described. (author)
