The reaction 3Hp→pnd at a 3H nucleus momentum 5 GeV/c

  • 1. Institute of Theoretical and Experimental Physics, State Commission on Use of Atomic Energy (USSR)

Description

The reaction 3Hp→pnd at a momentum of the incident 3H nuclei equal to 5 GeV/c has been investigated by means of the liquid-hydrogen bubble chamber at our institute, 80 cm in diameter. The reaction cross section was 20.4±0.2 mb. Angular, momentum, and mass distributions are obtained for the reaction products in a 4π geometry. The regions of phase space corresponding to quasifree pn scattering and Nd interaction in the final states are identified. In the region of quasifree pn scattering a comparison is made of various experimental spectra with theoretical predictions on the basis of pole diagrams with nuclear vertex functions (NVF) for three NN potentials: the Yamaguchi potential, the Reid potential, and the potential in the composite quark bag model. In the mass spectra of pn, pd, and nd systems no indications are obtained of a manifestation of two-baryon or three-baryon resonances
