Abstract A study has been made of silicon burning in stellar explosions. A variety of initial compositions has been considered, and an approximate method for summing the contribution of different zones in the star has been developed. It is emphasized that summing over zones in which the initial conditions vary results in realistic agreement with natural abundances for nuclei with 28 4.5 X 10 K).
