Study on atoms and molecules using optical vortex in the extreme ultraviolet region

Description

'Optical vortex,' which is electromagnetic wave with a spiral wavefront, is also called the light carrying orbital angular momentum. Conventionally, various studies have been carried out in the visible to near-infrared wavelength region, taking advantage of the orbital angular momentum owned by the optical vortex and the peculiar intensity distribution of the doughnut shape. In addition, with the recent rapid development of optical vortex generation technology in the shortwave region, interest in optical vortex is increasing in the field of atomic and molecular physics. This paper briefly explains the optical vortex, and introduces the optical vortex generation in the ultrashort ultraviolet region using a helical undulator and its application to atomic and molecular experiments, with a focus on the studies that the authors have been promoting. Abstract (Japanese)

螺旋状の波面を持つ電磁波「光渦」は軌道角運動量を運ぶ光とも呼ばれる.従来,光渦の持つ軌道角運動量やドーナツ状の特異な強度分布を生かした様々な研究が可視から近赤外の波長域で行われてきたが,近年の短波長域における光渦生成技術の急速な発展に伴い,原子分子物理の分野でも光渦への関心が高まりつつある.本稿では光渦について簡単に解説するとともに,著者らが進めてきた研究を中心に,ヘリカルアンジュレータを利用した極短紫外域での光渦生成と原子分子実験への応用を紹介する.(著者)
