Status of HTR direct cycle development

Description
As conclusion of the first phase which began in 1972, the project high-temperature reactor with helium turbine of large power (HHT) produced a status report. The aim of phase I was to prove the feasibility of HHT plants which achieve a high degree of efficiency in the generation of electricity using dry cooling towers by making full use of the temperature potential of the HTR and should be less expensive than HTR dual-cycle systems due to a simpler construction. Phase II planned until 1979 should now lead to a 1,080 MWe demonstration plant instead of a 300 MWe prototype. (orig./LH)

Zum Abschluss der ersten, 1972 begonnenen Phase veranstaltete das Projekt Hochtemperaturreaktor mit Heliumturbine grosser Leistung (HHT) einen Statusbericht. Ziel der Phase I war der Nachweis der Machbarkeit von HHT-Anlagen, die durch volle Nutzung des Temperaturpotentials des HTR hohe Wirkungsgrade bei der Stromerzeugung unter Einsatz von Trockenkuehltuermen erzielen und durch einfachere Konstruktion niedrigere Kosten als HTR-Zweikreissysteme haben sollen. Die bis 1979 geplante Phase II soll jetzt statt zu einem 300-MWe-Prototyp zu einer 1.080-MWe-Demonstrationsanlage fuehren. (orig.)Additional details
