On steady tokamak with relativistic electrons

  • 1. Nagoya University, Institute of Plasma Physics, Nagoya, Aichi (Japan)

Description

A simple method of maintaining a toroidal current in resistive plasmas is proposed. A high current relativistic electron ring with its major radius approximately equal to that of toroidal plasma and a Low intensity ion beam are injected into the plasma. The resultant increase in the plasma current compensates for the decay of the current due to the plasma resistivity. It turns out that ion beam current required may be much smaller than that of the electron ring. (author)
