Description
The Detroit Edison Company (DECo), in cooperation with EPRI, installed the Outage Risk Assessment and Management (ORAM trademark) software at Enrico Fermi Plant 2 and used it during the plant's fifth refueling outage (RF05). EPRI developed ORAM to help plant personnel ensure that system configurations provide an adequate level of safety during scheduled testing and component maintenance. When ORAM models are properly developed and configures for specific plants (as they were at Fermi 2), they can be used during outages to evaluate changes or potential changes to the outage schedule. During the Fermi 2 refueling outage, ORAM provided DECo personnel a continuous overview of plant safety and displayed cautions about plant configurations posing higher levels of risk. Throughout, plant personnel were able to observe variations in shutdown risk. Outage planners and managers gained insight into those factors having the strongest influence on safety and into effective contingency planning actions that will be useful in future outages. Experience gained from Fermi 2's implementation of ORAM will be beneficial to all utilities
