Emergency core cooling system
Description
Purpose: To restrict flow out of coolants from the pressure vessel of a water cooled reactor in loss of coolant accident due to ruptures in pipeways in an emergency core cooling system. Constitution: A check valve mechanism is provided in the midway of the pipeway leading to the sparger in a pressure vessel. The check valve has a structure in which a ball is used as a valve body for the closure of flowing path and a portion of the flowing path in the valve chamber is restricted as the valve sheet to less than the diameter of the ball. If coolants flow backwardly in the pipeway, the ball is pressed onto the valve sheet by hydraulic pressure to close the pipeway. (Ikeda, J.)
