Optimum conditions for determining radon-222 in seawater

The authors examined features of the most widely used method for determining radon in seawater, i.e., by continuous bubbling through a sample. An equation was obtained for determining the optimum amount of adsorbent in radon cooling trap so as to transfer the greatest amount of radon from the sample to the counting chamber. The weight of adsorbent could deviate from optimum by up to a factor 2 without appreciably lowering the transfer efficiency. Equations were also obtained for estimating radon loss in the system. A radon-extraction method was outlined for simplifying the experimental determination of bubbling time
