Shift of the solar 584-A He I line, and evidence for interstellar wind from the interplanetary EUV background
Description
Both the gravitational redshift and the correlation between vertical flow velocity and gas emissivity in the chromosphere--corona transition zone will shift the solar lambda584 He I line away from its resonance wavelength. This shift probably exceeds 0.6 km/sec; it may reach several km/sec. When adjusted for the line shift, the values derived for the interstellar-wind temperature and velocity from measurements of backscattered lambda584 radiation become somewhat lower
