Primary gastrointestinal stromal tumor of the retroperitoneum

Gastrointestinal stromal tumor is an uncommon mesenchymal neoplasm which affect the gastrointestinal tract. Imaging studies, specially computed tomography, allow to determine localization, size and relationship of the tumor to adjacent structures, although immunohistochemistry stains are always necessary to etiological diagnosis. The authors report a case of a primary retroperitoneal gastrointestinal stromal tumor showing its imaging findings and literature correlation. (author)
