Electronic quantitative characterization of interlocked blocks with iron ore tailing

  • 1. Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto (UFOP), MG (Brazil). Rede Temática em Engenharia de Materiais (REDEMAT) Nanolab

Description

In this paper, the characterization of Pavers with iron ore was made using the technique of Electronic Quantitative Mineralogy (MQE). The data was obtained by an automated acquisition system, installed at REDEMAT's Nanolab, named TIMA-MIRA system. This system is composed of a TIMA (Tescan Integrated Mineral Analyzer), equipped with a scanning electron microscope with field emission electron gun coupled with two characteristic X-ray energy scattering detectors (MIRA). For the calibration of the results was used complementaries techniques such as optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction and X-ray fluorescence. The samples consisted mainly of quartz, hematite, orthoclase and calcite. The MQE proved to be a complete and unified tool for the characterization of the interlocked blocks that could contribute significantly to optimize the processing routes and even to enable the use of these materials in the production of ecoproducts.
