Description

A summary is presented of the results on tokamak experiments that were presented during the thirteenth conference on Plasma Physics and Controlled Nuclear Fusion Research, Washington D.C., 1-6 October 1990. In particular, progress was noted in the field of auxiliary heating and plasma fuelling, in an increase in the parameter regime of the ''supershots'' in TFTR and in the attainment of improved confinement regimes by peaked density profile formation methods. Maximum values of plasma parameters in JET and TFTR were obtained in hot ion regimes, approaching the thermonuclear range. Both experiments are being prepared for experiments with a D-T mixture, while special experiments are being carried out to study fast ion confinement and alpha particle diagnostics. Experiments with a number of new devices are imminent. 7 refs, 11 figs, 3 tabs
