Thick surface layer model
Description
Fatigue life of surface-strengthened components is influenced by residual stresses and different material properties of the components case and core. In contrast to not surface-strengthened components location of crack initiation often is observed below the surface. The presented model for analytical fatigue life calculation is suitable to take these effects into account. Calculation results show quite good agreement with experimental observations. (orig.)
