Preparation of zirconia powders from zircon by thermal plasma
- 1. Regional Research Lab., Bhubaneswar (India)
- 2. Regional Research Lab., Tiruvananthapuram (India)
Description
Preparation of different grades of zirconia from zircon have been investigated. Zircon sand was thermally dissociated in a non-transferred extended arc in flight thermal plasma reactor. Plasma dissociated zircon (PDZ) was leached to recover zirconia. Alkali leaching of PDZ resulted in refractory grade zirconia whereas acid leaching yielded high pure zirconia. Preparation of stabilized zirconia was also carried out with the addition of calcia and yttria. (author). 37 refs., 9 figs., 1 tab
