The digital methods of peak area computation and detection limit in gamma-ray spectrometry
Description
The digital methods of peak computation in γ-ray spectrometry (Covell's, Sterlinski's, Wasson's, Wasson-Sterlinski's methods and their modifications) have been tested for the evaluation of weak peaks on the different background levels. The equations for a calculation of detection and determination limits according to Rogers have been used for a comparison of the suitability of the above mentioned methods. Gamma-rays of Eu-152 and Co-60 were measured with Ge(Li) coaxial detector (resolution of 2.5 keV for the 1332 keV photopeak of Co-60) coupled to Plurimat 20 computer analyzer. The γ-ray spectrum of Eu-152 was recorded on a magnetic tape. Then, increasing amounts of Co-60 were acquisited to the Eu-152 spectrum so that some photopeaks of Eu-152 gradually disappeared in the Compton continuum of Co-60. Sterlinski's method gives the best results for the evaluation of weak peaks under the conditions studied. The results are presented in figures. (T.I.)
