Optimization of scope of internal exposure monitoring for FBR personnel
- 1. Institut Biofiziki, Moscow (USSR)
Description
There is no unanimity in the scientific literature on the scope of monitoring of internal exposure in nuclear power plant personnel. The development of the FBR raises questions connected with the organization, realization and optimization of the scope of this monitoring. The principles of internal exposure monitoring of personnel are formulated in the paper. Monitoring frequency was defined for models of single and prolonged intake with non-stochastic and stochastic behaviour, taking into account metabolism and radionuclide decay. Reference incorporation levels of the principal radionuclides for FBR personnel were calculated. The results were obtained from analysis of literature data on actinide yields at the end of the irradiation cycle in the core and breeding region, yields of the main fission products, corrosion products in the sodium coolant circuits and the induced activity of the first coolant circuit for accepted technical designs of reactors using mixed oxide fuel. The investigation includes optimization of: (1) the number of measured physical quantities; (2) the sensitivity of the detection systems used; (3) the monitoring frequency, on the basis of registration of single intakes exceeding by 10% the internal exposure reference dose level; (4) the scope of monitoring for professional groups, as defined by technological operations. The optimized parameters are presented. (author)
