Direct evidence for a massive galactic halo

  • 1. Royal Observatory, Edinburgh (UK)

Description

The discovery of a very distant galactic RR Lyrae star, R15 is reported. Spectroscopic observations of the object show that it has a high negative radial velocity, implying a lower limit to the mass of the galaxy of 1.4 x 1012 Msun. (author)
