The immiscible aqueous solutions of alkyl phosphates. Study for the purpose of uranium extraction from phosphoric acid solutions

Description
Systems of immiscible aqueous solutions composed by a phase rich in mineral salt and by another phase almost totally containing an organic salt, have been studied for years, with quaternary ammonium salts with an organic cation. The objective of this research is to study systems symmetric to the previous ones, i.e. with organic anions such as alkyl phosphates, and then to try to understand mechanisms of extraction of metals in these environments. Based on properties of immiscible aqueous solutions, an original three-phase process of liquid-liquid extraction has been developed, and is used to separate uranium in phosphoric acids with better performance than the existing industrial processes
Abstract (French)
Les systemes de solutions aqueuses immiscibles, composes d'une phase riche en sel mineral, et d'une autre contenant en presque totalite un sel organique, ont ete examines, depuis quelques annees, avec des sels d'ammonium quaternaire dont le cation est organique. Le but de ce memoire a ete d'etudier, dans un premier temps, des systemes symetriques aux precedents, avec des anions organiques tels que les phosphates d'alkyles, puis de chercher a comprendre les mecanismes d'extraction des metaux dans ces milieux. En se basant sur les proprietes des solutions aqueuses non miscibles, un procede original d'extraction liquide-liquide a trois phases a ete mis au point, et permet la separation de l'uranium dans les acides phosphoriques avec des performances superieures a celles des procedes qui existent actuellement dans l'industrie.
