Dose measurements in pediatric X-ray examination
Description
In pediatric radiology dose measurements are especially important, since the chield's organism is especially radiation sensitive, compared to adults. The relatively high life expectency means a long lasting summation time for ionizing radiation, so that also radiation damages with long latent periods can be manifested. The high rate of mitosises in the growing organism, the larger volume dose, the altogether more active bone marrow, the incomplete descensus of the gonads in early infant age as well as restlessness and lacking cooperation with infants and small childs are further factors that have to be considered. It was the aim of this work to perform a plentiful number of dose measurements in often prochised radiologic examinations with comparetively special gonade load, on the one hand to estimate the dose values in the most frequent routine techniques and on the other hand to look for other possibilities for radiation exposition reduction. Abstract (German)
In der Kinderroentgenologie haben Dosismessungen besondere Bedeutung, da der kindliche Organismus im Vergleich zum Erwachsenen besonders strahlenempfindlich ist: die relativ lange Lebenserwartung bedeutet eine langdauernde Summationszeit fuer ionisierende Strahlen, so dass sich auch Strahlenschaeden mit langer Latenzzeit manifestieren koennen. Die hohe Mitoserate des wachsenden Organismus, die groessere Volumendosis, das insgesamt noch aktivere Knochenmark, der unvollstaendige Deszensus der Gonaden im fruehen Saeuglingsalter sowie Unruhe und mangelnde Mitarbeit bei Saeuglingen und Kleinkindern sind weitere Faktoren, die zu beruecksichtigen sind. Es war daher das Ziel der vorliegenden Arbeit, ausgiebige Dosismessungen bei haeufig vorkommenden roentgenologischen Untersuchungen mit vergleichsweise besonderer Belastung der Gonaden durchzufuehren, um einerseits die Dosiswerte der haeufigsten Routineverfahren zu ermitteln und andererseits nach weiteren Moeglichkeiten zur Reduktion der Strahlenexposition zu suchen.
