Are there real types of radiopulsars?

Description

Pulsars of two earlier distinguished groups (O and P) are compared using certain parameters not hitherto studied. It is shown that between the two groups there exists a significant difference as measured by: the linear polarization averaged over the pulse; the dependence of the pulse shape on the distance to the galactic plane; the nature of the variation of the angle between the axis of the magnetic dipole and the rotation axis of the neutron star as a function of the distance from the galactic plane; and the position on the P-P diagram. The division into two types is close to the classification in which the main distinguishing parameter is the observed period. Considered together, the found differences unambiguously indicate a nonuniformity of the observed population of radiopulsars. The P pulsars are probably analogs of the pulsar PSR 0531 + 21 in the Crab Nebula, while the type O pulsars have properties analogous to those of the pulsar PRS 1,913 + 16, which passed through an accretion stage and then recommenced radio radiation. 32 refs., 3 figs., 3 tabs
