Low cycle fatigue properties of structural steels

  • 1. Kawasaki Steel Corp., Chiba (Japan). Technical Research Lab.

Description

Low cycle fatigue properties are described on various structural steel plates used for ship hulls, pressure vessels, civil structures, etc. A so-called Manson-Coffin relation, epsilon.Nsup(k)=C, was established for strain controlled fatigue tests. The correlation between material constants k and C and tensile properties are discussed. Cyclic hardening and softening during the strain controlled tests are observed. Also, a ratio of crack-propagation life to fatigue life is obtained. All Materials used in this experiment clearly satisfy the ASME section III code for boiler and pressure vessel. (author)
