Assessment of self-protected cross sections for some 59Co (n,γ) 60Co thick cobalt sensors

Description

The authors report the calculation of self-protected cross sections in equi-lethargic bands between 0.025 eV and 18 MeV for the 59Co (n,γ) 60Co reaction. Two areas are distinguished: a low energy area (E < 85 keV) for which assessments are performed by means of measured resonance parameters (by using the Breit and Wigner formula, these parameters allow radiative and total cross sections and self-protection coefficients of sensors to be calculated), and a measured area (E > 85 keV) for which measurements of radiative and total cross sections are available. Calculation results are given under the form of a partial effective resonance integral, and of a ratio of this integral to the sensor resonance integral
