Description

In this study two relative methods and non- destructive assay were applied for determination of the 235U mass content in nuclear material (NM) samples using neutron detection by Active Well Coincidence Counter (AWCC) and gamma detection by Hyper Pure Germanium (HPGe) spectrometer. These relative methods were used for verification their accuracies and precision related to that certified values of that nuclear material samples under investigation for the purposes of nuclear safeguards. A standard nuclear materials has been used in this study to calibrate the two devices and carry out the verification (the investigated nuclear materials samples in this study are under safeguards application by the Egyptian System of Accounting for and Control of Nuclear Materials (ESAC). The estimated calibration curve using gamma detection and that curve using neutron detection have been used to determine the mass of 235U content in the investigated samples by the two relative methods and to compare their precision and validity.
