Bi-207 accumulation problem in lead targets for ADS

Description
The perspectives of developing the low-activation materials for fast and subcritical reactors are discussed. Presently, lead is considered as one of the candidate materials for ADS targets. Meanwhile, the calculation shows that when natural lead is irradiated with fast protons and neutrons, hazardous radionuclides (Pb-210, Bi-207 and Po-210) are accumulated in it. A new coolant for ADS consisting of lead isotope, Pb-206, is proposed. By using this material, it is possible to reduce essentially the production of the most radiotoxic isotopes of Pb, Bi and Po. The time dependences of actinides of Bi-207 produced in Pb-nat and Pb-206 after irradiation during one year with the 0.8 GeV proton beam are given

Обсуждаются перспективы создания низкоактивационных материалов для быстрых и подкритических реакторов. В настоящее время свинец рассматривается в качестве одного из материалов для мишеней электроядерных установок. Однако расчеты показывают, что при облучении свинца (Pb-nat) быстрыми протонами и нейтронами в нем накапливаются опасные радиоизотопы (Pb-210, Bi-207 и Po-210). Предлагается использовать новый теплоноситель для электроядерной установки, состоящий из Pb-206. Использование такого материала позволяет значительно уменьшить генерацию большинства радиотоксичных изотопов свинца, висмута и полония. Приводятся временные зависимости активности висмута-207, полученного в Pb-nat и Pb-206 после облучения в течение года пучком протонов с энергией 0,8 ГэВAdditional details
