High-resolution MR imaging of the skin
Description
For MR imaging of the skin the authors use two coils: a highly optimized 3.8-cm-diameter counterrotating current coil, and a multiturn coil related to the CRC design with an extended region of sensitivity in the plane parallel to the imaging surface of the coil but little sensitivity beyond 1 cm of depth from the surface. The authors correlated MR images from healthy volunteers obtained with an 8-cm field of view and 3-mm section thickness (General Electric 1.5-T Signa system) with magnified cryomicrotome sections in order to determine the normal anatomic appearance on MR imaging. In addition, they imaged a small number of patients with pathologic conditions of the skin, including squamous and basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, and lymphoma. MR imaging appears capable of accurately depicting the degree of local invasion
