Hydrogen isotope effect on the radical addition of the hydrogensulfite ion to allyl alcohol in aqueous solutions
- 1. Japan Atomic Energy Research Inst., Takasaki, Gunma. Takasaki Radiation Chemistry Research Establishment
Description
A study of the radiation-induced addition of HSO3- to allyl alcohol was carried out in D2O-H2O mixtures. It was found that a linear relationship held between the apparent rate constant of NaHSO3 consumption and the atom fraction of deuterium in the mixture, and that the hydrogen atom abstraction from HSO3- by HOCH2CH-CH2SO3- was the rate-determining step. The kinetic isotope effect of this abstraction was 4.38. (auth.)
