Method of removal of radium from water by filtration through filter sand

Description

Radium removal from water is claimed by filtering through filter sand impregnated with higher manganese oxides containing at least 30% MnOsub(x) (x = 1.7 - 2.0). In filtering through sand impregnated with 42% MnO2, 37% Fe2O3 and 21% CaCO3, radium level in water was reduced by three orders. The packing is regenerated with a solution of 1 - 5% MnCl2 adjusted to pH 2 - 4. After 2 - 24 hours of regeneration the packing is rinsed with water and a 1% solution of KMnO4. (Ha)
