Quantum mechanical variational principle for the nonlinear response of a system
Description
Using one and the same simple variational principle, the statistical operator of the canonical distribution and formulas for both the nonlinear and linear response of a sysstem are obtained through some modification and natural generalization of the variational principle known from quantum mechanics to include mixed states.
