Space-time study of the meteorological parameters of the metropolitan area of the Toluca Valley and its correlation with atmospheric pollutants
Description
This study aims to correlate air pollutants (PM 2.5) with meteorological parameters of Metropolitan Area of Toluca Valley (MATV), through a Pearson correlation. For this, six sites of interest were selected according to the codes of the US EPA, beginning on November 26, 2016 and culminating on November 14, 2018. The characterization of particles smaller than 2.5 micrometers was carried out using the technique of emission of Proton-induced X-rays (PIXE), likewise, the meteorological parameters were provided by the Automatic Atmospheric Monitoring Network of the Toluca Valley and the National Meteorological Service. The results reveal that the collected samples contain 17 elements which are Si, P, S, Cl, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Y, Zn, Pb, K, Ca, Ti, V, Mn and Fe. Likewise, the wind roses corresponding to the times of the MATV were developed, in which, there are two areas of interest for their peculiarity, since it is probably a convergence zone due to their interaction between all directions and the wind speed. In addition, the enrichment factor was determined for the six study sites, in which it is revealed that only Ceboruco has enriched elements, however San Lorenzo Tepaltitlan shows that it has five highly enriched elements, the most noted is the Pb. Finally, the correlation demonstrates a weak interaction between the meteorological parameters and the elementary chemical composition of PM 2.5, obtaining zero correlations for all sites of interest.
