Description
Understanding wear mechanisms and the consequent optimization of surface treatments require powerful and integrated techniques of surface diagnostics. It is shown that Moessbauer spectroscopy techniques can make original and sometimes determining contributions in different fields of tribology. Examples are presented concerning the characterization and tribological behaviour of both conversion coatings and PVD thin films, as well as the analysis of wear debris produced by sliding couples.
