Scattering of pions by deuterons
Description
The scattering of π+ by deuterons has been studied using the impulse approximation. Simple expressions for the scattering amplitudes for the elastic, inelastic and charge exchange reactions have been derived using the pion nucleon amplitudes given by Koltun. Numerical calculations have been done for the above three processes over the energy range 60-300 MeV and found to yield the same results as those obtained by performing the calculations using Chew-Low amplitudes for the πN interaction. The calculations have been done in the pion-deuteron centre-of-mass system taking into account all the p wave and s wave phase shifts. The cross-sections of inelastic and charge exchange scattering processes are compared with the available experimental results. (auth.)
