Giant resonances

  • 1. Rijksuniversiteit Groningen (Netherlands). Kernfysisch Versneller Inst.

Description

The paper reviews recent advances in experimental studies carried out on electric giant resonances. A review is given of the present available tools to excite the various giant resonances, as well as the methods to analyse the data. The characteristics of the isoscalar and isovector electric resonances are discussed. The effect of the surface properties of the nuclear ground state on the giant resonances and the decay properties of the giant resonances are examined. Finally a short discussion on the giant resonances built on excited states is presented. (U.K.)
