A simple mechanistic model for PWR reflood compared with FLECHT SEASET data

Description

A mechanistic model is presented for the cooling of fuel rods during the reflood stage of a hypothetical large-break PWR loss-of-coolant accident. The rate of advance of the wetted region is calculated with the aid of the clad-conduction theory of Yu, Farmer and Coney. Heat transfer in the dry region is computed assuming a flow of superheated steam containing water droplets, usually with a region of inverted annular film boiling immediately above the quench front. The predictions of the model are compared with 27 runs of the FLECHT SEASET series. (author)
