Electric monopole transitions in platinum 186
- 1. Georgia Tech., Atlanta, GA (United States)
Description
Gamma-gamma and gamma-electron coincidence data have been taken for the transitions observed in the decay of 186Au to 186Pt. Sources of 186Au were produced by the 181Ta(12C,7n) reaction at the Holifield Heavy Ion Research Facility and mass separated using UNISOR. We identify several electric monopole (E0) transitions. Of particular interest is a pure E0 transition between two 3+ states. These states are members of two coexisting low-lying Kπ = 2+ bands. The results will be discussed in the context of shape coexistence and nuclear deformation
