Incidence of early thrombotic complications after gynaecological operations assessed with 125I-fibrinogen

  • 1. Slaska Akademia Medyczna, Katowice (Poland)

Description

The incidence of early thrombotic complications in the venous system of the lower extremities after gynaecological operations was assessed by means of the isotope method using 125I-labelled fibrinogen. In 25% of the patients the isotope test demonstrated presence of venous thrombus formation in lower extremities. In only 3 out of 8 patients with active thrombosis clinical manifestations developed, and positive result of isotope investigation preceded by 48 hours the appearance of pain, erythema and swelling of the lower leg. The extent and duration of the operation were of decisive importance for the increased risk of thrombotic complications development. The possibility of using a simple measuring device for routine assessment and early detection of venous thrombosis in the lower extremities was confirmed. (author)
