Grand Est energy production inventory - V2023 calculation methodologies and main results

Description

This document sheds methodological light on the energy production provided in the Climate Air Energy Observatory publications. It also presents the main regional results for energy production by sector. The aim is to calculate primary energy production in the Grand Est region. The inventory lists the most primary energy production possible, i.e. the one furthest upstream in the flow chain. For certain sectors, the energy to be counted is, by convention, the quantity of heat or electricity produced. For the present inventory, two classes of production channels are considered: non-renewable channels and renewable channels. The general method for the energy production inventory is based on that used for the inventory of energy consumption and emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases. A methodological sheet is produced for each sector, including a calculation flowchart, primary data, intermediate calculations, a breakdown of regional data at municipal or sub-municipal level, validation and final results. The aim of this report is to present the methodologies applied, the data used and possible areas for improvement as part of the territorial inventory of energy production carried out by ATMO Grand Est. For around half of the sectors, a direct inventory is carried out based on operator data. The other half are estimated on a pro rata basis in relation to a given year or installed capacity, or broken down geographically on the basis of a regional total. Inventory sources and references are listed in the bibliography.
