Sweden's carbon tax. A success story?

For many climate policy actors, the pricing of CO${}_2$ is the most important tool for reducing CO${}_2$ emissions and thus protecting the climate. Sweden already introduced a CO${}_2$ tax in 1991. At present, the resulting CO${}_2$ price is even at a level that many economists are only calling for after 2030. Therefore, with special attention to Sweden, I want to examine how effective CO${}_2$ prices have been in the past. I conclude that CO${}_2$ prices have reduced emissions to a limited extent in the past, but that there have also been other successful ways that have led to emission reductions. An important question here is to what extent these experiences can be transferred to the future and other countries.
