Controlled air incinerator conversion to allow on-line waste additions

Description
Incineration of low-level radioactive waste has been carried out by Ontario Hydro since 1977. The system is founded on a batch process type incinerator using a controlled air principle in which combustion air quantity in the primary chamber is controlled to 30-50% of stoichiometric. Demands on the incinerator have steadily increased as the generation of incinerable waste has outstripped the processing capabilities of the incinerator. A number of equipment modifications were implemented in an attempt to increase incinerator capacity. The latest and most significant modification involved installation of an on line loading system. This system is presented by the authors
